Snow finally hit around here! I don't drive in it (no 4WD or snow tires on the minivan!) so we were stuck for over a week! Thankfully we picked up a snowsuit and boots for Scotty a week or so before, and a sled last winter after the one snow we had. This snowstorm was pretty crazy. Lots of people around us were without power for days (thankfully we never lost power). We had freezing rain on top of the snow. I am horrible with measurements, but I'll go out on a limb and say we had maybe 6 inches at our house? I know people that had 12 inches or more (my dad!). Thankfully I had done all my grocery shopping Thursday, the storm hit Sunday and we just hunkered down. Scotty LOVED the snow

my DAD was the one that invited me. To Skype, that is. That's right, I have never used Skype. I've heard of it. I know about it. I've never tried it. Until tonight. After weeks (maybe even months?) of my dad singing the praises of Skype, I finally created an account and Scotty and I called my dad tonight. It was pretty fantastic. I feel silly that my dad knew about it and how to use it before me, but so glad we did it
Scotty got a kick out of seeing himself AND Grandpa on the screen. It's been a while since we've been able to see my dad, so it was fun! Hopefully we'll kick this cold sooner rather than later so we can actually see him and Heidi in person! In the meantime, Skype is pretty snazzy.
On another note...my 4 year old taught me how to use the keyboard to pause a movie on Netflix. How the heck did he know how to do this and I didn't? Is this the beginning of my child knowing more about electronics than I do? I think it may be. He is pretty advanced with the remotes for the TV...what other 4 year old knows how to use the input button until the correct option is selected? And then how to click the DVD/VCR remote button so it's selecting DVD so he can watch his movie? Best 10 minutes spent EVER. He's been awesome since we've all felt like crap
This week has been chaotic! We stuck with Fun Friday though...we went to my Auntie B's for a fun craft! She used to do these with me and my sisters when we were little, she's a blast! We went over and I played with Ila (who Auntie was babysitting) while Scotty and Uncle L made a train out of candy! He had a blast. After they finished the train we had lunch, the kids ate cupcakes (as soon as I find my cable, I'm pulling pictures off to share...wordless wednesday maybe?). Then we played for a little bit, Scotty and Uncle L went to the basement to "exercise". They have TONS of exercise equipment downstairs. She's a bit of a QVC shopaholic!
After Auntie's we drove Ila back home...I was supposed to clean at my sisters, but since we had Ila at Auntie B's so long, she got a TON done and no longer needed me to clean. I think she heard on the phone when I called in the am how tired I already was! So Scotty and I dropped off Ila and headed home to take a nap before the birthday party. We crashed for 1.5 hours!
THEN came the chaotic birthday party! Hubby came with and wasn't feeling very well shortly after we got there, so we ended up leaving after an hour or so...but Scotty had helped me pack his overnight bag and stayed the night! He was playing with all the other kids, I hear he helped open presents AND ate cake by the handful with Ila! All in all, a good fun friday
Next week we'll be doing Fun Friday on Wednesday...Scotty requested we go to KidzBounce! and they aren't open on Friday, so Wednesday it is
Since we've been watching Ila the last few months I've noticed Scotty's attitude leaves something to be desired. Last week we were going to go berry picking on Friday and run some errands...and he let us know that wasn't the best plan. Instead of fighting with him over it, we changed our plan to do something fun together. We went swimming. He had a blast, I had fun...it made me think, maybe we should set aside a day each week (Fridays) that we do at least one fun thing together. Watching Ila keeps us busy, it's a little stressful at times because I'm trying to keep up with two of them and Scotty can really push my buttons when he's not getting my attention. So...this is week 2 of "Fun Friday" with Scotty.
The plan: Pick some blackberries in the backyard and have him help me make some freezer jam. Make some cookies (we're completely out!) and POSSIBLY do some painting. Hopefully this helps him and we get our one-on-one time with no distractions!
I've been looking forward to my two days off all week...especially after the horrid day with Ila on Wednesday. Yesterday went well enough. It was our 7 year anniversary. We had a lazy day. Scotty and I were both exhausted and a little cranky the first half of the day. I blame it on the previous day (Ila) being super sucky. The grocery store was a nightmare...there's a reason I drive 20 minutes into the next town, people are much nicer and polite. Here? Not so much. So in the middle of the store (when I'm already a mess because I hate stepping out of my comfort zone AND being in the store when it's busy...I seriously panic) my phone won't stop ringing. I ignore it because I don't want to deal with it in the store. I listen to messages. One is from my sister warning me the other twin's sister in law will be calling. Crap.
Why was the sister in law calling you ask? To ask me to babysit for a few hours this morning. I can't say no. This is the sister in law that has been fighting cancer since pregnant with her youngest...who is now around 18 months I think? *sigh* I called her bag and we played phone tag all afternoon, then confirmed that Scotty and I will be there this morning at 9:30 to watch the girls for a few hours while mom goes to an appointment. Seriously, three kids? Is this going to end well? I'm just hoping Scotty keeps them happy enough...I'll have no trouble with the older one (T). It's the 18 month old (D) that I'm worried about...she's not as used to me as T is!
Wish me luck...it's going to be an interesting morning...After that? To the library and possibly Goodwill to see if I can snag some more canning jars for my next batch of fruit. So much for a lazy day, huh?
And let this be a lesson to you. If you ask me for a favor? I'll probably say yes. And then stress about it all night and get about 2 hours of sleep while wishing I'd said no.
We went to my sisters for my little sisters bridal shower last week...Scotty had a BLAST. We tried on shoes trying to decide which ones to wear to the wedding...Scotty decided he'd like to go to Auntie's closet to pick out a pair of his own. The sad part? He walks better in them than I do!

And this is why I no longer make the hubby get rid of things I think are pointless to keep. A box full of junk? Or endless entertainment in the form of electrons? Scotty is in heaven when we sit down to play with all these wires, motors, batteries and whatever else we find. I love how it make his little brain work trying to figure out how to connect things and make things happen!
So...Cars 2 at the movie theater was a bust. Scotty wanted to leave about 10 minutes into the movie, I made him stay.
We then rented Megamind through Netflix and attempted family movie night with popcorn. Total bust. He watched a few minutes and went back and forth between playing and watching the movie. (We thought Megamind was hilarious!)
Last night? We hit the Jackpot with Tangled! Scotty wants to keep it. He likes her hair. Now this leaves me scrambling trying to figure out what movie to try next for family movie night...Cinderella? Gnomeo and Juliet? Tinker Bell? I have no idea. Help!
Any suggestions to add to our list for Family Movie Night with a 4 year old boy would be greatly appreciated!
Cousins! Scotty helped me babysit cousin Ila last week...she's now 9 months old and moving FAST. And still crazy about her cousin Scotty!
