Wordless Wednesday - Snow!

Snow finally hit around here! I don't drive in it (no 4WD or snow tires on the minivan!) so we were stuck for over a week! Thankfully we picked up a snowsuit and boots for Scotty a week or so before, and a sled last winter after the one snow we had. This snowstorm was pretty crazy. Lots of people around us were without power for days (thankfully we never lost power). We had freezing rain on top of the snow. I am horrible with measurements, but I'll go out on a limb and say we had maybe 6 inches at our house? I know people that had 12 inches or more (my dad!). Thankfully I had done all my grocery shopping Thursday, the storm hit Sunday and we just hunkered down. Scotty LOVED the snow :)

I hope you enjoyed the Holidays! We had 4 days full of get-togethers...and that's not counting the week or two of prep beforehand! Needless to say, I'm ready for a vacation!

It started on Friday with the Christmas Boat. Then Saturday we had Christmas Eve with my Mom's side of the family at my sisters...then home to do dinner with my brother in law. Sunday was Christmas morning just us, then afternoon at my sisters to celebrate with my dad's side. Monday was brunch with my husband's biological family...the most fun and I forgot to take pictures!

Happy Holidays! I've been hanging with these two cute kiddos for the past few weeks on Monday/Tuesday...then frantically trying to cram in all the holiday festivities and baking! This week we have something planned EVERY SINGLE DAY! The holidays are pure craziness around here...but these two make it so much fun! Scotty is finally into Christmas and Ila is just a nut and loves everything that Scotty does :) Hope you are ready for the holidays, they're fast approaching whether we're ready or not!

Lack of posting!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

I've been slacking on posting...I know, way to state the obvious. A LOT has been going on around here. First of all, we've come to the realization (or finally have proof, we've suspected for years) that my father in law never stopped drinking completely. Lately he's been "having a glass of wine every once in a while". He seems to think this is perfectly okay. It's not. We've been dealing with a whole bunch of crap from him. I get it from both sides, super fun, right? Needless to say, things have been a little tense and stressful around here.

Yesterday I spent the day in my PJ's and most of it in bed. I'd get up and start a chore, then end up in bed again. I've inhaled most of Scotty's Halloween candy. I froze what was left yesterday. If it's in the freezer I have to put forth some effort to get to it. I'm pretty lazy, so it works for me. On Thursday my father in law came over to pick up his fish he's been storing in our freezer...and then he took his suburban that he's been lending us. Not really a big deal, except he drove off with the only car my husband can drive. You know, the one we spent a bunch of money to replace brakes and install handicap controls on the steering wheel? Yeah, then when my brother in law called to coordinate to go and remove the controls, dear old father in law wouldn't let him. He's a real winner.

We're now in a holding pattern. This is the worst for me. We have a garage full of his stuff that we've been storing AND he has our handicap controls. We haven't heard from him since Thursday. He's known for over a month that he was going to need to move his stuff out of our garage. We need the space. We hope to move this summer and I'm going to start packing things up that we aren't using...and he has a ton of crap in our garage. We were very nice about letting him know that we needed him to move his stuff out. The plan was for me to load it into the Suburban and then we'd coordinate driving it over to his place so he wouldn't be too inconvenienced. Unfortunately, with a drunk they blow everything out of proportion and now he's throwing his tantrum. My garage is still full...Tonight the hubby is calling to coordinate to get it all out...or donate it to goodwill, I don't care as long as it's gone. In the meantime? I'm just furious. Watching him throw his fit in the driveway and drive off in the Suburban after saying he's done so much for us and we've done nothing? I can't wait to have the butthead out of our lives.

For the record, we've detoxed the idiot at least 4 times in this house...we've been here 3 years. Before that? Multiple times at our old house AND my hubby would drive out to FIL's house (1.5 to 2 hr drive away) to babysit him and clean him up, drive him to rehab, etc. The man drives me nuts. I hate that he keeps doing this to us, to my husband, my brothers in law AND to Scotty. Scotty is not going to get the same treatment I got when I was a little kid and my mom did this kind of stuff. Thankfully he's a super smart kid...and he's been through this with my mom. It's not really anything new to Scotty, he understands that grandpa isn't making good choices and we can't see him right now. Same line I give him about my mom. Who knows, some day they may clean up their act. I don't want Scotty to remember them as evil if that happens. They're just making poor choices.

I break things

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

You know when you do something even though you know you shouldn't? And it doesn't end well? I do! I broke my computer. It started this morning when my mouse wouldn't work. I changed the battery, restarted my computer, did everything I could think of. Nothing. SO I then decided "I should run the disk cleanup thingy". Yeah, if I'm calling it "thingy" I probably shouldn't be using it. I did that. Then I ran the virus program. Now? My outlook won't work. *sigh* So here I am at my sisters and no Outlook. Luckily I can access my personal email through the comcast site. I'm not completely cutoff from the world. I'm really hoping the hubby can fix this easily though. If he has to reinstall Outlook? I'm screwed. All my contacts are in there. And emails...old and new, replied and not replied to yet. Crap.

My name is Sandy, I can't fix things. I really need to stop trying. (Earlier this week? I broke the switch for the automatic screens at my sisters house...oops!)

This was our last family picture...Scotty was 18 months, we were still living at our old house, hubby was a few years out from the wheelchair. I'd say we need to pull out a camera and take a picture of the three of us together, wouldn't you?

Vacation time?

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

I've been trying to get back to the cabin since returning from our last trip sometime in June. It seems like it's been ages! Unfortunately I have a zillion schedules to plan around! First we had my little sisters wedding. Thank goodness that is over (even though it was fun!). Now we're watching Ila 2 days a week. Then I threw basketball in there. So we're definitely busy Monday/Tuesday and Thursday. How am I supposed to get up there? *sigh*

I sat down and looked at the calendar the other day...we have no basketball on the 10th of November! I have no idea why. Anyone? Is it a holiday or something? Anyhoo, I'm going to try to coordinate with my sister and take the following Monday/Tuesday off (or at least Monday) and possibly head up there around that time. We'll see if any wrenches get thrown into my plan, but I'm hoping! I asked Scotty if he wanted to go and he's so in! Even though it's going to be cold...and rainy...and we'll spend a bit of time inside by the fire. I'm still excited to get up there for a mini-vacation!

I'm so late to the party...

my DAD was the one that invited me. To Skype, that is. That's right, I have never used Skype. I've heard of it. I know about it. I've never tried it. Until tonight. After weeks (maybe even months?) of my dad singing the praises of Skype, I finally created an account and Scotty and I called my dad tonight. It was pretty fantastic. I feel silly that my dad knew about it and how to use it before me, but so glad we did it :) Scotty got a kick out of seeing himself AND Grandpa on the screen. It's been a while since we've been able to see my dad, so it was fun! Hopefully we'll kick this cold sooner rather than later so we can actually see him and Heidi in person! In the meantime, Skype is pretty snazzy.

On another note...my 4 year old taught me how to use the keyboard to pause a movie on Netflix. How the heck did he know how to do this and I didn't? Is this the beginning of my child knowing more about electronics than I do? I think it may be. He is pretty advanced with the remotes for the TV...what other 4 year old knows how to use the input button until the correct option is selected? And then how to click the DVD/VCR remote button so it's selecting DVD so he can watch his movie? Best 10 minutes spent EVER. He's been awesome since we've all felt like crap :)
