Frog Cupcakes!

Okay, these turned out so cute! I found them here:

http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/frog-cupcakes.html

So here's what I did. I made the cupcakes according to the directions.

Then I took some store bought white frosting (in the future I'll make it from scratch, I hate store bought vanilla, it tastes funny to me!) and added food coloring in my mixer. Now I used the regular cheap food coloring because I forgot to snag my sisters gel coloring, but I'd recommend the gel if you want them super green.

Then you just frost your cupcakes as smoothly as possible.

Next, cut large marshmallows into thirds, then cut those thirds in half. These will make your eyes.

Stick those eyes on your frogs like so:

Next you'll need some pink icing and some black gel:

Now, before adding the eyes and mouth, I suggest practicing. I hadn't used this stuff in years and it's a little tricky! Okay, maybe not tricky, but if you want it to look nice, I'd practice. I grabbed a paper towel and practiced. A lot. I'm still not pleased with the outcome, but towards the end I was getting better! I did the eyes first, then finished with the mouth so I wouldn't bump it while trying to dot the  eyes!

The finished product!

And despite me thinking the frosting was gross, everyone else said they were absolutely delicious! And if I can make these? Anyone can. I am not the least bit artistic!

Meet Bob and Fred

In CategoryHouse and Home, My Life

Meet Bob and Fred. Aren't they the cutest? Fred was named by Scotty, Bob was named by me. Get it? Bob cat. I thought it was hilarious.

*Fred (left) and Bob (right)

Okay, why did we get a kitten (or two) you may be asking? Especially if you know me in real life and know that I'm allergic to cats (hay fever like symptoms) and Scott is too (horrible asthma). Well, it's a long story. About 10 years ago I got a cat. I was 17 and the clerk at the pet store couldn't do simple math when I BS'd her and claimed that Yes, I was 18. Yay, I got a cat! I hid Wesley from my dad for a few weeks...then he found him. He threatened to get rid of him FOR me if I didn't do it. It was the first time I defied my dad (not counting when I was little). I didn't listen to him and after a few weeks he gave up. Wes had won dad over :) After I got Wes fixed, he decided I was evil. Understandably so. When I moved in with Scott, I left Wes with dad since they had bonded. Unfortunately a year and a half ago Wes went missing. Dad's pretty sure coyotes got him, I like to think he's been adopted by a grandma and is fat and happy. Either way, he's gone. Dad is finally ready for a cat. So what does he do? He tells me to find him a cat. Since it's a kitten, I'm game. He wanted a male Tigger cat with no white markings. My very first cat was Tigger, he lived to 15 or 16. He was the best :)

Anyway, fast forward to Friday. I finally found a male Tigger cat on Craigslist. She agreed to meet me, I called dad and he told me get one. That way if he liked it, he could go get his own, and I could keep the one we had if it didn't bother our allergies. Well, I couldn't do it. I got two. She had a lot of interest in them and I hadn't seen many Tigger cats, so I got two since they were only $10. We've fallen in love with them. Scotty LOVES the kittens. We've bonded. Dad likes his, even though they are medium hair and not short hair. We now have to decide if we're keeping Bob or Fred. At first we thought Bob because he was more alert and playful. Unfortunately, he hides from Scotty. Fred is a lot more affectionate, so we've finally made the decision we are keeping Fred. Exciting!

Meet Fred...the most tolerant and easy going cat I've met since MY Tigger cat that we got when I was Scotty's age! (And if we ever get another cat and it's a girl? We're totally naming her Ginger!)

Cabin Trip June 2011

In CategoryHouse and Home, My Life
BySandy

It was amazing! Absolutely wonderfully amazing! We saw seals/sea lions. I don't know which, the hubby thought sea lions, brother in law thought seals. I don't care, I just know we saw some sea creatures and it was fantastic.

The drive over was easy...Scotty was great and had a blast on ferry. Once at the cabin and unpacked we headed right down to the beach. We played on our beach for quite a while. We spent at least an hour each morning after breakfast at our beach, then we'd do whatever the rest of the day. We explored some of the other beaches on the island, played up at the cabin, went into town. Every night we'd go back down to our beach though. We packed our bag of snacks, grabbed the cameras (and binoculars!) and headed down to watch for seals. Every night they came out around 8 and we'd stay down until 9 watching them. It was the first time I'd ever seen them and it was so neat!

I actually noticed them the first time when we went down so Scotty could "swim" before bed. Scared the crap out of me! We had the poor kid stripped down to his skivvies and ready to climb in the water and I just about fell over when I looked up and saw a seal! I made him wait until I got the hubby on the phone to see if I should let him swim. I'm a bit overprotective :) The seal was pretty far out and not at all interested, so we let him swim. By swim, I mean he stood in the water for two seconds and then wanted out to stand and throw rocks in. He had fun!

Not much else happened this trip. My dad and his girlfriend didn't make it up. It was a very nice and quiet trip...I can't wait to go back :) I'm really hoping things work out for us financially to where we could actually move there full time! I think it would be amazing. The hubby agrees. It's such a small community (pop. 2200 or so) and so friendly. Very slow pace and easy going, I love it!

*Picture post to follow...TONS of pictures, I need to sort through them all!

Some upcoming projects...

In CategoryHouse and Home, My Life

I've got a LONG list I'm sure I'll be adding to...right now at the top?

Our main bathroom...right now it looks like this:

I'm in the middle of doing this bathroom right now...I've painted it and keep coming up with brilliant and fun accent ideas...can't wait to finish it and share :)

Another ongoing project right now is a dresser. It's been in our garage since we moved in. We FINALLY emptied it and were planning to give it away on Craigslist. After pulling it out in the light so we could see it, we decided to try to refinish it. It's a nice solid wood dresser, dovetail joints...so much promise! I've started sanding it, but there's a ways to go before it's ready to enter the house!

And last but not least at the top of the list...Scotty's room! We're aiming for an outerspace theme. The hubby is a science nerd and he already has Scotty talking about electrons, gears, motors, etc. He's not even four yet! Anyway, I have lots of ideas for his room and hope it turns out as great as I think it can!

These will keep me busy for a while :) I also have a few side projects, but we'll see if I actually get around to them! I'm going to attempt to take pictures as I go...I just have to remember to do it!
