You know what's super exciting in our family? Your first visit from your Christmas elf! Scotty was visited by his elf Pretzle Swizzle Toes the Third (my sisters are the absolute best, they came up with the name, wrote the first letter AND left him a surprise!). Pretzle works in the puzzle department, hence the puzzle below. Scotty is in heaven and LOVING writing to his elf and finding little surprises! This Christmas is going to be the best...he's finally got his elf and is getting excited about everything!

Lack of posting!

I've been slacking on posting...I know, way to state the obvious. A LOT has been going on around here. First of all, we've come to the realization (or finally have proof, we've suspected for years) that my father in law never stopped drinking completely. Lately he's been "having a glass of wine every once in a while". He seems to think this is perfectly okay. It's not. We've been dealing with a whole bunch of crap from him. I get it from both sides, super fun, right? Needless to say, things have been a little tense and stressful around here.

Yesterday I spent the day in my PJ's and most of it in bed. I'd get up and start a chore, then end up in bed again. I've inhaled most of Scotty's Halloween candy. I froze what was left yesterday. If it's in the freezer I have to put forth some effort to get to it. I'm pretty lazy, so it works for me. On Thursday my father in law came over to pick up his fish he's been storing in our freezer...and then he took his suburban that he's been lending us. Not really a big deal, except he drove off with the only car my husband can drive. You know, the one we spent a bunch of money to replace brakes and install handicap controls on the steering wheel? Yeah, then when my brother in law called to coordinate to go and remove the controls, dear old father in law wouldn't let him. He's a real winner.

We're now in a holding pattern. This is the worst for me. We have a garage full of his stuff that we've been storing AND he has our handicap controls. We haven't heard from him since Thursday. He's known for over a month that he was going to need to move his stuff out of our garage. We need the space. We hope to move this summer and I'm going to start packing things up that we aren't using...and he has a ton of crap in our garage. We were very nice about letting him know that we needed him to move his stuff out. The plan was for me to load it into the Suburban and then we'd coordinate driving it over to his place so he wouldn't be too inconvenienced. Unfortunately, with a drunk they blow everything out of proportion and now he's throwing his tantrum. My garage is still full...Tonight the hubby is calling to coordinate to get it all out...or donate it to goodwill, I don't care as long as it's gone. In the meantime? I'm just furious. Watching him throw his fit in the driveway and drive off in the Suburban after saying he's done so much for us and we've done nothing? I can't wait to have the butthead out of our lives.

For the record, we've detoxed the idiot at least 4 times in this house...we've been here 3 years. Before that? Multiple times at our old house AND my hubby would drive out to FIL's house (1.5 to 2 hr drive away) to babysit him and clean him up, drive him to rehab, etc. The man drives me nuts. I hate that he keeps doing this to us, to my husband, my brothers in law AND to Scotty. Scotty is not going to get the same treatment I got when I was a little kid and my mom did this kind of stuff. Thankfully he's a super smart kid...and he's been through this with my mom. It's not really anything new to Scotty, he understands that grandpa isn't making good choices and we can't see him right now. Same line I give him about my mom. Who knows, some day they may clean up their act. I don't want Scotty to remember them as evil if that happens. They're just making poor choices.
