We went to my sisters for my little sisters bridal shower last week...Scotty had a BLAST. We tried on shoes trying to decide which ones to wear to the wedding...Scotty decided he'd like to go to Auntie's closet to pick out a pair of his own. The sad part? He walks better in them than I do!

Help with heels!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

I haven't worn heels in about...5 years or so? At least not on a regular basis. I wore heels 4 years ago at one sisters wedding. That's the last time I remember doing so. Now? I have a new pair (finally got them the other day!) that I have to wear to little sisters wedding on Thursday. The reason I need help? My feet are different sizes. I hate my feet. I got the size that fit best. I thought I was fine with my left foot (fit comfortably) and my right foot (a little tight). Now that I've been wearing them...the right is pretty comfortable, the left is super comfy...until I walk! Then my left foot slips out. What do I do?

I'd also like to prevent blisters if possible...any suggestions from you ladies that actually wear heels on a regular basis would be much appreciated! Preferably today :) If I need to go pick something up, I have to do it tomorrow...will have absolutely no time on Thursday. We have be in the city EARLY. We'll be there until the wedding...at 6:30. Ask me how excited I am for that. Can't wait till it's all over and there's no more stress!

I rallied!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

So, I never really partied or went out drinking in my early twenties. Needless to say, I'm not used to it AT ALL. I think I had two drinks on my 21 run. I've never been hungover. UNTIL NOW.

Friday was the Bridal shower for my little sis, I kicked butt at that and only had one blueberry mimosa (delicious). Then came the Bachelorette party. I rallied for that one. I found out after the fact that they all expected me to be done by 10:30. Whatever. It went like this:

4 pm-We met up at my sisters to carpool into town and do a tour of the Red Hook Brewery. I'm not a beer drinker at all. I still managed to drink every glass of beer I was handed. I do not handle liquor well, so I had quite the buzz after that. We had a little picnic after that to prepare for the coming night.

Not sure on timing after the brewery, but we headed into the city to go bowling. It was a blast! I haven't been bowling since I was 12 or so, I am HORRIBLE. Fortunately, so was everyone else. We stayed for two hours, then wandered to the arcade area. Apparently I went to school with a guy that works there. I was pretty tipsy at this point and am told I said "okay" when he told me this and walked off. Oops. I looked on Facebook yesterday and realized, yes, yes I did go to school with him! And I was incredibly rude. I'm so embarrassed.

After this we stopped at an Irish pub for drinks, that was a short stop, then wandered down the street to another bar...restaurant? I'm not sure. THIS is where the magic happened though! My sister met a guy she had helped move across the country (she's in HR and handles moves) and my other sisters cousin-in-law met the host to one of my favorite radio stations! She dragged him and his whole team over to our table and it was awesome...I think. I got a Justin Bieber VIP pass thingy...and realized the next morning you could buy them at the party store 4 for $1.99. Crap. Not so exciting or impressive now, oh well.

I would just like to say...I am so proud that I was able to stay the whole time! And my little sis is getting married on Thursday! Thank goodness we have a few days to recover...

And this is why I no longer make the hubby get rid of things I think are pointless to keep. A box full of junk? Or endless entertainment in the form of electrons? Scotty is in heaven when we sit down to play with all these wires, motors, batteries and whatever else we find. I love how it make his little brain work trying to figure out how to connect things and make things happen!

Wedding Chaos!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

I haven't been around much, I know. I am so frazzled right now it's not even funny. We finally get done with Scotty's birthday celebrations...and now it's on to my little sisters wedding! It's coming up on the 28th...and I finally know my dress fits and needs no alterations (unless I gain or lose a bunch in the next week!). We still have no shoes...I *think* one of my sisters picked up a bunch yesterday, now we just need to try them on and see which we want to wear. I need to get Scotty's haircut, find outfits for the boys and get my eyebrows waxed. On top of this? All the get-togethers BEFORE the wedding.

*Friday-Bridal shower

*Saturday-Bachelorette

*Wednesday-Rehearsal dinner

*Thursday-Wedding!

And I'm guessing, just guessing, I will be cleaning my other sisters house (she's hosting the shower, bach & rehearsal dinner) before each event. I am so tired just thinking about it. And running out of time to get things done. AND I need to go get a new bra before the bachelorette party. Needless to say, I'll be missing until after the wedding unless I can't sleep and end up on the computer :)

On another note, I got to see my little cousin on Saturday! He's been away training in the army and is now a ranger! He came home on leave and was at Grams all weekend. We went over on Saturday for most of the day and visited, he was leaving this morning to head back to report, then they will transport him back to the base near here. It scares the crap out of me that he's in the army and a ranger, but I'm so proud of him!

Family Movie Night Success!

In CategoryMy Life, parenting
BySandy

So...Cars 2 at the movie theater was a bust. Scotty wanted to leave about 10 minutes into the movie, I  made him stay.

We then rented Megamind through Netflix and attempted family movie night with popcorn. Total bust. He watched a few minutes and went back and forth between playing and watching the movie. (We thought Megamind was hilarious!)

Last night? We hit the Jackpot with Tangled! Scotty wants to keep it. He likes her hair. Now this leaves me scrambling trying to figure out what movie to try next for family movie night...Cinderella? Gnomeo and Juliet? Tinker Bell? I have no idea. Help!

Any suggestions to add to our list for Family Movie Night with a 4 year old boy would be greatly appreciated!

Movie suggestions please!

In CategoryMy Life, parenting
BySandy

Alright, we saw Cars 2 in the theater on Scotty's birthday. He did better than I thought he would, but not great. He hates to sit still, so you need to suck him in fast or he loses interest. I remember him liking the first one more though...Friday night we watched Megamind and same problem, lost interest and wanted to go run and play. So...any suggestions on good movies for active 4 yr old little boys? I'd really like to do family movie night if I can find something he'd enjoy!

Frog Cupcakes!

In CategoryHouse and Home, My Life, parenting
BySandy

Okay, these turned out so cute! I found them here:

http://www.coolest-birthday-cakes.com/frog-cupcakes.html

So here's what I did. I made the cupcakes according to the directions.

Then I took some store bought white frosting (in the future I'll make it from scratch, I hate store bought vanilla, it tastes funny to me!) and added food coloring in my mixer. Now I used the regular cheap food coloring because I forgot to snag my sisters gel coloring, but I'd recommend the gel if you want them super green.

Then you just frost your cupcakes as smoothly as possible.

Next, cut large marshmallows into thirds, then cut those thirds in half. These will make your eyes.

Stick those eyes on your frogs like so:

Next you'll need some pink icing and some black gel:

Now, before adding the eyes and mouth, I suggest practicing. I hadn't used this stuff in years and it's a little tricky! Okay, maybe not tricky, but if you want it to look nice, I'd practice. I grabbed a paper towel and practiced. A lot. I'm still not pleased with the outcome, but towards the end I was getting better! I did the eyes first, then finished with the mouth so I wouldn't bump it while trying to dot the  eyes!

The finished product!

And despite me thinking the frosting was gross, everyone else said they were absolutely delicious! And if I can make these? Anyone can. I am not the least bit artistic!

The chaos has passed!

In CategoryMy Life

Finally! After multiple birthday celebrations, we only have one left and we *might* be able to get it over with on the 4th! Here's what we've been up to for the last week!

Saturday: Hubby's biological family (he's adopted) came over for a big BBQ for Scotty's 4th birthday. It was a blast, we ate way too much, had fun visiting and Scotty played with his two older cousins! We were all exhausted when it was over...Scotty passed out early, kittens slept for 3 hours after everyone left!

Sunday: 5 am hubby fell getting into bed...which sparked the discussion about the kittens. He'd been suffering from his asthma for a week (we'd had them for two weeks at this point) and didn't want to tell me and Scotty. *sigh* I texted my dad's girlfriend right away since I knew they were up, it was a work day for dad and he leaves super early. Asked her if they would take the kittens. Remember, originally they were going to take one...until we fell in love with both. Luckily I got a text back around 3:30 saying they'd take both. Scotty and I packed them and their gear up in the suburban (necessary due to the amount of crap we'd gotten them!) and drove out to leave the kittens. No tears, which was a relief! He handled it well! Kittens had settled by 11 that night and were loving life.

Monday and Tuesday: I honestly don't remember. Prepping for the parties?

Wednesday: Pancakes and "happy birthday song" at breakfast, 4 yr checkup, Scotty's 4th birthday! Poor guy got 4 shots, two in each thigh. He's 43 inches tall, 48.2 lbs. How did he get this big? I remember when he was 9 lbs 9 oz and 20.5 in long! After his early doctors appointment we headed to Ama's for tea and cookies (my grandma's) and visited for a little while. Then? Cars 2 in 3D! So fun. Scotty's first movie ever. He did better than I thought he would. I thought it was cute, he seemed to settle once I made him sit with me. Afterwards we stopped at Red Robin and had lunch together, then back home to play with dad until supper time. I don't remember what we had for supper, but I made a delicious gluten-free brownie for dessert with some chocolate frosting and 4 in M&M's. Then it was bedtime (thank goodness, I thought the day would never end!)...wait, no bed time for me??? Yep, Scotty went to bed and I went to work in the kitchen. Two batches of cupcakes to frost...like frogs. Another post to follow on those. Turned out super cute!

Thursday: Scotty's Friend Birthday! We had a lazy morning (by "we" I mean Scotty did) and I frantically cleaned and prepped for quests. The party was a hit, despite the gray weather. Scotty and his friends had a blast...who needs toys when you have a bunch of balloons? The rest of the day was spent quietly after all the chaos with some outside time before bed since the sun decided to peek out!

Friday: It WAS going to be a lazy day...until I realized we had library books due and I can't get anymore fines or I'll have to pay it. They make you pay it at $5...I think. I've been holding strong at $4.60 for months and plan to continue. We had a nice quiet morning until I got a text/call from my sister asking if I'd help her clean for a BBQ. Scotty and I got ready and headed into town to the library and Target...picked up some fans, returned some stuff and exchanged his new bedding for twin size. THEN headed over to Ec's...we were there 2.5 hrs! Thank goodness I brought my laptop for Scotty to play on while I cleaned! Finally finished and headed home for a quick supper and movie night! Megamind is pretty cute, though it didn't hold Scotty's attention for long.

And that is our week...wow, I guess I was busy. I lost a few days there, but I know I was busy. Can't wait for a quiet week now!
