My new "work" area!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

Alright, so I've been randomly setting my laptop down wherever since I got it. I hate that I don't have an area that's mine. It tends to go between the kitchen counter and the dinner table. Well, I got a bug to find a desk. We had a desk when we were little that would have been perfect, but I think one of my sisters got rid of it after a move and doesn't want to fess up. Oh well. I repurposed a table we had in the office collecting crap.

Before, the chaos that was our dinner table:

After:

I stole a chair from the dining room and setup a corner in our bedroom. I love it. I can even kick the boys out and shut the door when I need to. And? I can sit and play on my computer during quiet time without worrying about Scotty popping his head out the door and driving me nuts. Win-win.

Happy Easter! We had a BUSY easter. Saturday we did the Easter bunny at our house because I woke up at 6:30 thinking it was Sunday...by the time I realized my mistake, I'd decided to just do it since we had to be out the door early on Sunday. So we did the mini indoor egghunt and Scotty was kind of "blah" about it. He got his basket and then we had breakfast. Headed out to my dad's around 10:15 or so, got there at 11 for the BIG Egg hunt. Scotty had a blast with that (he'd woke up all the way!). We didn't leave there till 5:30 because my sisters came out and we spent the day visiting. Then Sunday was off to my sisters for an egg hunt and brunch. We spent about 3 hours or so over there, then came home and crashed. I'm still recovering.

Kid birthdays...opinions please!

In CategoryMy Life, parenting

Scotty's 4th birthday is coming up at the end of June. I've been in planning mode for a while now, only because I have no idea what to do about our guest list. The past 3 years we've invited all the family. My husband is adopted, so he has a BUNCH. I have 8 people myself (sisters, mom and Grandma). He has his adoptive family (brothers and dad, 6 total including significant others and a nephew), then his biological family is another 8. That's before adding in extended family (other little kid cousins).

My question is this...at what point do you stop doing such a family focused birthday party and start doing more of a "your kid and their friends" party? I hate to exclude anyone, but I also hate to keep inviting everyone if it's an imposition. I'm not sure what to do. We could always do a family party AND a friend party. I'm open to that. We're already doing one extra birthday celebration with my dad, what's one more?

I'd like to know what YOU do for your kids birthday? When is it acceptable to stop inviting ALL the family to birthday parties? And are we a special case because of the whole adoption thing from my hubby's side? I feel like that side of the family loves it because they didn't experience it when my hubby was little...

The Naked Chef! Okay, not really naked, but half way there. I can't keep pants on this kid, it's ridiculous. Here he is helping make pancakes...now I just need to teach him how to measure and make them while I sleep in :)

Why do we color easter eggs?

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

Seriously, can anyone answer this? I asked my husband last night and he answered "because it's more fun to eat colored eggs". I really don't think that's the answer.

And while we're on the subject of colored easter eggs, does anyone else hide them? My parents always hid the colored hard boiled eggs for us when we were little. Apparently my husband had never heard of this before meeting me. I don't think we had the plastic ones when we were little, maybe this is the reason? I don't remember. I'm just sitting here thinking, I don't really know WHY we do this. Maybe someone has the answer?

My craziness paid off!

I've been dairy/soy/wheat free for a month. I started the first day of my last cycle. It's been tricky. It's been expensive. A little bit of a pain reading all the labels. I'm happy to say it helped with my endo! Today marks day 1 of my cycle (I KNOW you wanted to know that!) and I'm almost pain-free. A step up from wearing my sweatpants below my c-section scar, that's for sure :) I may even venture out of the house today, that's how great I'm feeling! Well, my allergies are kicking my  bum, but the endo isn't this month and for that I'm super grateful and plan to stick to this weird diet.

Now I just need to come up with some new recipes...I DID find an awesome grocery outlet that has healthy foods. Yay! I bought a ton of Quinoa last week and now need to come up with some tasty recipes...and I ordered some beef from Zaycon Foods. I'm not supposed to eat a ton of red meat on the endo diet, but I figure I can sneak a little in every once in a while.

Wordless Wednesday

Yesterday we got a new dresser for Scotty's room from my dad. We got home and I cleaned it really well, put it back together in his room and put his clothes away. Then? Scotty asked if he could put his toys in the empty drawers. Sure, why not? This is what we ended up with:

I'd say my OCD tendencies are rubbing off on the kid. I don't know whether I should be proud or feel sorry for him!

A to Z

In CategoryBlog Hops
BySandy

*Alright, I copied this from Tammy over at Tammy's Two Cents. I'm a sucker for these things, so here we go!

A. Age: 26...with a birthday coming up that I think I'll skip this year :)

B. Bed size: Queen for now...hopefully a king or cal. king when we move! I'm a bed hog.

C. Chore you dislike: Cleaning the bathroom...or should I be specific and say the toilet? Yuck.

D. Dogs: None :( Hopefully in the next few years though

E.  Essential start to your day: I gave up coffee a few months ago, I don't really enjoy tea...I tend to gravitate to my laptop for my wake-up routine

F. Favorite color: Green...pretty much any green

G. Gold or silver: Silver or white gold. I hate how yellow gold looks on me.

H. Height: 5' 5" or so

I. Instruments you play(ed): None.

J. Job title: Mom :)

K. Kids: Scotty, 3.5 years old

L. Live: Bellevue, WA (hopefully that changes soon to somewhere a little less city!)

M. Mom’s name: Debi

N. Nicknames: Umm...Babe? Kid, Brat, I'm sure there are more than I'm not remembering at the moment

O. Overnight hospital stays: Does a sleep study count? If so, I've done one of those AND stayed overnight when I had Scotty

P. Pet peeves: Tapping of fingernails, bad drivers, rude/inconsiderate people. And the worst? Trying to coordinate anything with family! Everyone is too busy and it takes forever.

Q. Quote from a movie: "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." - Dirty Dancing. One of my all time favorites, right up there with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

R. Righty or Lefty: Righty.

S. Siblings: Older twin sisters and one younger sister.

T. Time you wake up: Depends...I TRY to wake up around 6:30 so I have alone time before the kiddo wakes up. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

U. Underwear: Yes

V. Vegetables you don’t like: Carrots. I hate carrots.

W. What makes you run late: My husband or son.

X. X-rays you’ve had: Umm...possibly my ankle?

Y. Yummy food you make: I'm a baker. I rock at it. And? My homemade pizza and bread are pretty delicious.

Z. Zoo Animal Favorites: The monkeys. Gorillas, orangutans, and I can't remember what the other ones are called. I love monkeys. And elephants.

Now you get to do it! Fun, right? I'm not very exciting...

Vacation Pictures!

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

I SHOULD save these until Wednesday for Wordless Wednesday...but instead I'll share them now since there are so many. Seriously, I took 337 pictures total while on vacation...I think I have 20 of Scotty talking on the phone to his dad. He has the funniest facial expressions!

The weather was a little drippy, but that didn't keep us inside! We went down to the beach as soon as we were unpacked and took a quick trip to the grocery for some hot dogs. We spent a few hours down there and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. Scotty filled a jar with sand and water to bring home for dad...then left it right at the water and was a little upset that the water had stolen his jar! We found it the next morning when the tide was out, yay! We ended up bringing two jars of water and sand home...they're a little stinky.

We wandered many of the beaches on the island and brought home a huge bucket of rocks. We've already stopped at Ama's and given her the special rock he found for her. Scotty was so tired by the end of each day that he ASKED to go to bed! I love it. We had so much fun, but were ready to come home by Wednesday...we missed Scott :( Hopefully he can go up with us at the end of the summer. In the meantime, Scotty and I are already planning our June/July trip! I'm thinking early June since July is the month when my little sis is getting married...

Pictures!
