Pathetic? Or Dedicated?

So...I've schedule a post for each day I'm on vacation (obviously). HOWEVER, as I'm writing this (on Saturday the 11th) I'm panicking about having no internet. I'd like to think this makes me dedicated. My husband laughs and thinks it's a little pathetic. He who cannot leave without his computer whenever we go on vacation.

I've researched and it looks like they have Wi-Fi at the library and around the building. SO I'm going to bring the laptop with me and try to connect while sitting in the parking lot. Not creepy at all, right? And super exciting for the 3 year old. Heck, maybe I can get a connection in town and he can explore the beach with Heidi? We'll see. Just in case I'll be setting my desktop computer up again so I can have my e-mail on there JUST IN CASE I can't connect.

My big worry? What if I win a giveaway? You're supposed to respond within 24-48 hours, if I can't connect to my internet I might not get my prize! Now that I've said this and I'm making all these elaborate plans I won't win anything. But? I'll be prepared. And I'll know what to do NEXT trip. Let's be honest, the hubby is going to be super excited to find out we can actually get free internet up there. I might even be able to drag him away on vacation! That's right, I married a workaholic.

So if you see any new posts from me with pictures while at the cabin? Say yay for me, I've figured out and successfully connected to the internet on-island! If you don't see picture posts until I get back? I was either unable to connect to the internet OR I forgot my camera, it ran out of batteries or I couldn't figure out how to get the pictures off. I'll have tons when I'm home though, I promise.

Enjoy your week, I know I will :)

Vacation Time!

In CategoryMy Life, Uncategorized

Scotty and I will be leaving today for our family cabin on Lopez Island...so excited! FIRST I have to go to my sisters baby shower, then the drive to the ferry begins. 2 hours in the car with a 3 year old should be interesting...at least we'll have the 45 minute ferry ride to break it up a bit! THEN we can go straight down to the beach after unloading the car! I won't have reliable internet, so I MAY be absent until we get back sometime on Wednesday. OR I could get lucky and figure out how to use the wi-fi connection in town!

Either way, I'll be enjoying campfires, hot cocoa and s'mores and views like this:

Looking at pictures like this almost make the wait worth it!

Blogging

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

So...blogging. I got sucked into the "get as many followers as possible" trap for a bit there. I was doing all the blog hops and that was about it. Well, that and entering giveaways. Then I thought "maybe I could do giveaways"...and I got so overwhelmed with giveaways, reading all the blogs in my reader and just kind of slacked off. It helped when I stopped doing the bloghops. I already had way too many blogs in my reader and inbox that I couldn't keep up. I wasn't enjoying it. Then I took a break. I'm still posting periodically, but I wasn't really into it.

For some reason, a switch was flipped today. I seem to have something to say. I don't know if anyone cares or wants to read it, but at least I'm blogging. So hopefully I can keep THIS routine going and you'll be hearing a lot more from me!

Bedtime Routines

In CategoryMy Life, parenting
BySandy

I'm horrible about bedtime routines. Heck, I'm horrible about sticking to a routine of any kind. Unless it's cleaning the house. I'm really weird about having a clean house. It's not a bad thing and I'm not crazy about it, but I do like a clean house. It seems it's the only routine I can stick to.

Example? I don't think Scotty has ever had a bedtime routine last more than a month. And baths? Well, those happen when I realize he's got some unknown sticky substance covering him from head to toe. Or when he starts to look tan he's so covered in dirt. Dinner is ridiculous. It's a toss up where we'll be eating each night. I DO cook a bunch and freeze when I feel like it, so it's helped a little bit. My husband has to force us to eat at the dinner table though.

Am I the only one with the inability to stick to a routine? I try, I really do. I just get so frazzled and things pop up that are unavoidable. AND I'm notorious for getting sucked into a project and losing track of time. I've been found out in the garage cleaning it either super early or super late. Or rearranging furniture right before bed. That's always a hit :)

Just thought I'd share a bit of my craziness and my parenting insecurities. On the bright side, Scotty is great at going with the flow!

My mom was SO right

And by right? I mean she was right in the fact that I'd have a kid just like me who knows my buttons. Just like I knew her buttons. I wouldn't trade him for the world.

Lately the little stinker has been quite the cuddle bug...and quite the pill. When we're not cuddling? We're usually at opposite ends of the house. He's in button-pushing mode. Today he was sent to his room for yelling at me during quiet time. And then he went potty, came out and saw the brownie bite I made for him and said "Wow, thanks mom, that's nice". How awesome is that? He is such a sweet kid, I love him to death and the times when I'm tearing my hair out are totally worth it. At the end of the day, we're usually giggling together anyways. Until bed time, that is. Then we all cry.

With this cute little guy (who's about doubled in size since this picture was taken):

Lopez Island, we've got the list prepared and are starting to pack...looking forward to some Holly B's cinnamon rolls, maybe some delicious dinner from LoveDog Cafe...and some peace and quiet at the cabin. Can't wait to get there!

Barnes & Noble Nook

In CategoryMy Life

I got it! After having the hubby research a bit for me, he gave me the green light and Scotty and I went to buy one yesterday. I love it! I've loaded a ton of free e-books on it, checked out some library books...It's pretty easy to use (even tech-challenged me can do it!)

I only spent $20 (I was one giftcard short after getting Scotty some books too, oops). I am so excited to play with it and very happy with my choice!

Lack of Motivation and a Nook

In CategoryMy Life
BySandy

So I've realized a GOOD thing about when the nephew was here...we all got up and got dressed and were around other people. Since he's stopped coming over? We're still in our PJ's at noon. We are so boring. It's 11:30 on a Thursday Friday...we haven't left the house in a few days. HELP!

On the bright side? My house is pretty darn clean. I've even scrubbed the toilets and am going to scrub the floors before I crawl in bed tonight. I'm trying to work up the energy to get dressed and head into town today. And by town? I mean the one 15 minutes away, not the one 5 minutes down the road. I'm weird. I refuse to go anywhere near Bellevue since the accident...bad experience, I'm boycotting. I'm weird, I know.

So today on our plate is a trip to Barnes and Noble. I'm caving and purchasing a Nook. I'm so excited! I've been going back and forth between the Nook and the Kindle and I've finally decided on the Nook. After reading this post by Jennifer at Heavenly Mommy, I'm caving with the hubby's full support. I couldn't do it until he did the research for me and told me it was a good buy :)

Now I'm off to get dressed and get the kiddo in the car...in a few hours, I'll be home with a new toy and I'll force myself to clean the rest of the house so I don't feel HORRIBLY guilty. I'll just feel a little guilty for spending all those giftcards...

Today marks our 6th wedding anniversary. Wow! Time has gone by so quickly. We've been through so much, learned more about each other and grown much closer. The last six years have been quite the adventure and I am so lucky to have found my husband. With the roller-coaster we've been on the last few years, it can only get better :) So...Happy Anniversary Scott!
