Is evil. Really really evil. I hate potty training. Scotty does great staying dry all night...then he goes in his diaper and tells me AFTER he's done. *sigh* I ask him every diaper change "do you want to go on the potty?" And he's very polite about it saying "no thanks". Every once in a while he'll go. I ask him every morning, do you want a diaper or underpants today? Yesterday and today he chose underpants. Then he snuck off to his room yesterday and peed on his floor. Oops. This was not 5 minutes after I'd asked him if he needed to go potty. But later that same day? He went poo on the potty. Complete accident. I think he was trying to fart. He was quite proud of himself after the fact though. Today we have a new plan of attack. We are setting the cookie timer for 30 minutes. Every half hour? You have to sit and try to go potty. Just try. If you don't go, no biggie, but at least you tried. So far no accidents. Hopefully today goes better than yesterday. Thankfully he's not being stubborn about it. Wish us luck...I really don't want to buy another box of diapers. And the poor kid is prone to rashes...which is why we're in undies again. I told him yesterday he had two choices. Undies or a diaper with some cream. He chose the undies. Apparently diaper cream is evil.
Yesterday we went to see Ama (my grandma)…but I didn’t call before we stopped by. Usually it’s not a problem. I’d been telling Scotty all morning we were going to see Ama and have tea & cookies. We got there…and she wasn’t home. Scotty pounded on the door yelling “Open up Ama!!” I told him she wasn’t home, so he parked himself on the front steps to wait. I convinced him to go around back with me since she parks in the garage and goes in that way. There were pigeons in the neighbors yard and they startled Scotty when he ran around the corner. I told him those were pigeons, they’re filthy things and Grandpa Ed used to shoot them. Don’t do that though, he got in trouble from the police. So Scotty goes about his business burning energy while running in the backyard. Then the pigeons flew back into the yard and he turns and looks at me and yells… “Let’s shoot them!” I won’t lie. I lost it I was laughing so hard. I DID explain to him that we couldn’t do that, but we could say “BOO!” to them and scare them away. He got a kick out of doing that for a bit. We waited about 15 minutes for Ama and decided to walk down to the store to see Uncle Cort…and Ama drove by as we were walking. Scotty got super excited and we ran back to Ama’s and had tea and cookies. I’ve decided I want to live in Issaquah close to Grams. Scotty thinks it would be wonderful as well
Other updates: Scott’s still working the mortgage business. He got an e-mail from his Volt recruiter asking if he was available, but they don’t have anything for him right now. Another MS recruiter e-mailed but he can’t go back to MS through anyone but Volt for a few months because of a non-compete agreement they had him sign. We’re both hoping things will pick up in the mortgage industry a bit so he can stay home. It’s better for his health, though a little hard for him with the distraction of me and Scotty
Scotty updates: He is growing like a weed. At his accident checkup he was 45 lbs! And he’s tall. He hits my middle now. He’s getting better with pronunciation. He’s sneaky, funny and super smart. We’re working on potty training whenever he tells us he wants undies. I have a feeling we’ve got a while yet.
That’s about it for now. Maybe I’ll get a little better at updating this blog, but I honestly doubt it. This kid keeps me busy!
I was hoping it wouldn’t be until he’d been driving himself for a few years, but at 2.5 he experienced his first car accident. Poor guy was AWESOME. Just like his dad, he held it together for Mom. The first tears were when they put my car on the tow truck. He was really worried about my car and wanted to go with it. We got him calmed down after explaining it was just getting a “piggy back to our house”.
Anyhoo, the accident…it all started with Scotty and I needing to go to the library. Yep, this all happened because I didn’t want my library books to be late and get fined. At this point? I’d take the library fine. We were headed through the intersection at Lake Hills Blvd & 156th. There’s a 4-way stop there and it was my turn, so I went…about half-way or a little further through the intersection the idiot on my right decided to coast through his stop sign and hit me. Right on Scotty’s side. Jammed the tire into the wheel well and there’s a ding right below the door Scotty was sitting by. His car seat has a stress fracture (we think, Scott took a look at it) and I ran over and borrowed a seat from Tina on Sunday night. This all happened on Tuesday. Scotty and I both went to the doctor and we’re fine as far as they can tell. We’re doing fine now, just frustrated because we’re down to one car and the other guy got a lawyer and is holding up the insurance claim. FUN. And Scotty’s having some nightmares about crashing. Poor guy. We left the house for the first time yesterday (other than his appointment the day of to get checked out and mine that Thursday) and he kept asking me if the car was okay the whole way there. We made it to the Issaquah Library (we’re not going to Lake Hills again anytime soon) and to visit Grams. I’m just looking forward to this all being done…and really happy that Scott was home and able to get to us so quickly! And we have decided we will never again buy a red car. Scott was hit a few times in his old red tercel (before he met me) and I’ve been rear-ended two times in this car. Blah.
